Hiya's Voice Intelligence Platform protects 500M+ users from spam, fraud, and deepfake scam calls, and gives businesses branded, verified caller ID so the calls that matter get answered.

We're hiring a senior backend engineer for a small foundational team building our next-generation voice products from scratch: real-time SIP/RTP media handling, STT/TTS pipelines with tight latency budgets, deepfake detection and speaker verification, and conversational AI, all integrated directly into carrier networks. It's greenfield, so you'll be making the early architecture decisions, not maintaining legacy services.

Stack: TypeScript/Node.js, Python, Kafka, Docker/Kubernetes on AWS. Telephony experience (SIP, RTP, WebRTC) is a plus, not required. Team is distributed across Seattle and Europe, async-first; 3 days/week in the Seattle office.

Hiya helps make phone calls trustworthy again. We block spam and fraud, and add verified identity to legitimate calls. Our voice tech analyzes 28+ billion calls a month across carriers like AT&T, Samsung, Rogers, and Virgin Media O2.

You'd join the team that owns the infrastructure behind our consumer apps (Hiya AI Phone, Hiya Spam Blocker) and our carrier integrations: the voice platform, mobile SDKs, and the tooling that validates calls work across carrier networks worldwide.

We're looking for builders. You'd start with breadth across the stack, from backend services (real-time call flows, VoIP) to AI pipelines (STT/TTS/LLM) to platform tooling, then grow into depth and ownership of the areas you care about most.

Strong in TypeScript or Python, comfortable with Node.js backends and basic DevOps (Docker, Terraform/Helm). Telephony (SIP/RTP/WebRTC), Kafka, or AWS is a plus.

The interview is a take-home that we build on during the on-site, so you start from your own work instead of a cold problem.
