You typically need to give the under-performing employee at least a chance to improve and meet the required standard - otherwise the hiring company will be leaving themselves open to a wrongful dismissal suit.

If bootcamps were a valid pathway into the profession at the time after I left high school I definitely would have foregone my Computer Science degree and gone down that route.

I'm glad attitudes towards them have shifted in the last few years - most of my friends in the profession work in companies that actively seek out applicants from bootcamps.

Since social distancing guidelines in my country have been relaxed and I've still been working from home, I find I have had more time and incentive to cultivate relationships with people that I actually want to spend time with and who have similar hobbies and interests as me rather than those who I am forced to spend time with in the office.
