I last worked at MongoDB where I did systems/C++ work, added features and fixed bugs in the MongoDB database. I graduated a year ago and did six internships (Foursquare, MongoDB, Twilio,...). The internships consisted of mostly full-stack development and a touch of data infrastructure work.

Quip has ~16 elite employees (Co-founder is ex-CTO of Facebook) (October 2014) (http://www.quora.com/How-many-engineers-work-at-Quip) and a great product used by many.

Creating a chrome extension that gives easy access to a user's playlists.

Motivation: I pretty much use Youtube as my music player. Great selection and I like watching the videos every now and then. The problem is that it doesn't really have the UI of a music player e.g. easy access to all of my 200+ playlists.

Sam Altman mentioned in his first lecture of "How to Start a Startup" that "There are much easier ways to become rich and everyone who starts a startup."

What are those ways? Consulting? Investing in property?

Name's Waley. Fourth year CS student at the University of Waterloo who is looking for a Fall 2014 software engineering internship.

I'll be interning at MongoDB in the summer. Last summer, I interned at Twilio where I wrote new features for and rebuilt Twilio's phone number search query tool. Also worked on the bulk porting feature.

Some indicators I've witnessed as a student: They started programming at an early age because they thought it was fun/interesting rather than thinking about a getting a job or making money. Have impressive side projects. Have competed and done well in algorithm competitions. Have full time software development experiences before starting university. High grades at an elite highschool. IQ above the rest. Educated and/or supportive parents or teachers.

In execution, there's benefits of being over confident (google it) e.g. taking it upon yourself to be the leader of a group, if you'r not confident about your course of action, you may lose the confidence of your followers.
