Used Maya and cinema 4d for years.. just started switching to Blender because I heard the buzz around it.. and it is legitimately the biggest win for consumer open source software by a huge margin. Absolutely great product, I think I can get workflows as good or better than Maya out of this.. and Maya costs thousands of dollars a year.

So if I open a new small business and want to advertise it on AdWords or elsewhere on the internet I have no recourse? Word of mouth is random and unreliable even if you have a good product. Advertising is a healthy and essential signalling mechanism to broadcast the availability of a new service and there is absolutely nothing morally wrong with it in its self. The non-benneficial side-effects like extensive user tracking and practices that drastically harm user experience however are bad and a seperate issue to be dealt with.

Aggressive defensiveness of this calibre is not a good look and probably reinforces any stereotype people have of developers who would consider themselves ColdFusion devs. I don't think anyone would have a problem with someone who is a dev, that does cold fusion. but to act like that's all you are going to know and define your self that way is pretty lame.

This is a great project. I've been attempting to achieve a similar goal but just by writing articles on topics I'm interested in. Even if its a synthesis of other things I'm reading or studying.
I hear this from older developers a lot, that the problems we are solving today have been solved already. That may be true to some extent, but I think that is dangerous, the ways the problems are solved again have different characteristics and advantages and generally push the ball forward. I think of it like forest fires clearing out old grown for new, and I think it's best to just have a zen-like mindset of being a constant beginner.

I'm getting burned out on all the narcissists writing articles about how they thought everyone else was an imbecile, and rudely raged at everyone most of their career, and how great they are because they got slightly less cancerous. Life is too short for that, if you love something, or have a technical opinion, be a kind hearted teacher and discusser not a rage monster.
