Git is pretty easy to use but people tend to overcomplicate it. Just push changes to your branch. Merge when ready. And keep your branch up to date with your main branch. Easy.

The media is corrupt and filled with incompetent writers. According to them we will be replaced by ai monday morning. They did the same wave of stories where they said baristas and chefs will be replaced by ai robots just a few years ago. They even had “proof”: a robot arm here and there doing a crappy job at making a burger and scrambled eggs. Now it’s tech “workers”. Also there are no jobs in tech. These folks writing “news” really are clueless and have no idea what they are writing - dont usually bother talking to people and researching their content, they just spew it out.

> One bad recession and that AAA piece of proprietary software you've built a whole game on could go under.
Great, that increases scarcity.
Companies investing labour so they can pay less for labour isnt something to celebrate. They can pay people to build tools or buy them from indie devs. The web world is essentially dead for independent development. Software is everywhere and it costs precisely zero. Best deal you can get is wage slavery. Now this is all about to eat the game dev world. Add some ai to the mix and artists can kiss their little revenue goodbye. I know i am not hiring one because i can generate my content online. Soon that will come to asset store packages that will be available for free everywhere.

So free labour? No thank you. Open source devs should think long and hard about how their good will is being taken advantage of. Not just by mega corps reselling their software by saas or ais but also by individuals demanding features and support. It also simply reduced the monetary value of code to zero. Unless it cures cancer there is no need to make it available free of charge.

Unfortunately the only thing to motivate most people is greed. I am aware of the legacy, but the way to sell this is by highlighting the profit that can come out of it. And fortunately there is nothing to kill on mars in the process. It’s a win win.

Europe is more keen on stability. That and protectionism through bureaucracy means things are moving at a slow pace. Some like it that way. And to spicy things up a bit, european countries enjoy dominating one another with petty politics. There is some cooperation for show but by and large it’s mainly driven by old age colonialism without wars. Cross border cultural friction means slow adoption of innovation between countries. Just look at east europe where innovative tech companies do better on the us market than its own eu home market.

Without the desire to explore and expand there would be no America. If the Spanish and Portuguese would have waited to solve all of humanity’s problems first and then set out to explore new worlds the world would be a different place today. Same with space exploration. It is in our dna as the most advanced life forms to go out there. It is also a duty to all life on this earth to expand beyond. Finding even a hint of former life on mars means life is a rule not an exception in the universe. Being able to colonise it means we can outsource all our destructive resource gathering to mars. Or even better we can live on it. Doing so would mean trade with earth and as a result development on a scale never seen before.
