Fun fact: I got my current job in part thanks to overleaf. I used it to write down my CV. It's so much more useful than Ms Word or Google Docs.

This echoes my experience in Africa too. Ironically, governments in the so-called "unfree" countries don't have nearly as much control or access to personal data as the "free" modern western ruling classes would have you believe.

It's pretty easy to game the system and evade surveillance altogether, especially considering that most people are in on it :)

Personally I use AWS Workspaces for this, especially if your site's DNS is hosted on Route53. Everything is taken care of automatically. It's been a breeze so far.

Hey HN,

Welcome to trimd.xyz, the most over-engineered URL shortener on the internet.

I used this project to learn EKS and GitOps.

The architecture is as follows:

* Kuberenetes cluster deployed with terraform on EKS

* ECR is used as the container registry

* Prometheus / Grafana for monitoring and alerts

* Argo CD for automated cluster deployments

* Gitlab CI for continuous integration

* DynamoDB for the storage layer

* AWS Load Balancer Controller for ingress

* FastAPI for the API Layer

* React / Tailwind / Vite for the UI layer

It's really going to be used as a sandbox type project for me to experiment with kubernetes related tools and learn different topics.
