I do not see it that way. I was born in Europe and immigrated to the US. In my mind the differences is that the US attracts more ambitious and talented people than Europe.

This is not right in finance at least. Messages updates are typically incremental just like in TCP. The reliability problem is dealt with with careful network stack tuning, core affinity and out of band recovery.

The videos you see are curated to showcase police brutality. In a country with 300 million people and as many guns, its not hard to come up with a video a day depicting things going wrong. That is not the norm though. No one is going to post videos of polite, professional interactions, even though those are, obviously, the vast majority of cases.

I have a 13 year old who just got a phone. I do not think things are as hopeless as you seem to believe. My daughter mocks social media (including my own use of it) and, so far, wants no part of it. That is, I think, largely because her mother and I have been educating her since she could use a computer on how stupid and vapid social media is. As far as I know, none of her friends has any social media accounts either, I believe for similar reasons.

People who hate Elon musk, which includes almost all of media, have no qualms about lying about Tesla in order to hurt it/him. In fact they might think is the right thing to do, for the sake of, well whatever.
If you are interested in the ground truth, check the videos by owners, talk to people who use FSD and best of all see if you can rent and drive a Tesla yourself.
Its sad to say, but even in tech we swim in an ocean of ideologically driven BS and not all of us have realized it yet.

That is exactly right. In terms of knowledge acquisition the disruption has occurred. Any motivated young person can get a world class education free of charge, without ever stepping into an ivy. But it turns out the main purpose of college is to sort people not educate them and we are only now realizing that.

The problem with this idea has been the same for 40 years: unlike in other fields of engineering in Software there is no bedrock of empirical science from which we can derive objective, reasonable standards. It is all opinion in CS and no doubt the most obnoxious, useless methodologists would be the ones with the strongest opinions about how others should build things.

Man, I have seen this everywhere, there is so much low hanging fruit for organizations that take developer productivity seriously. It is insane the amount of friction (leading to burnout, disengagement, and ultimately turnover) that developers deal with, every day, just because no one in the organization can see past their quarterly OKRs and fix basic things.
