this is false.. Gander's own privacy policy says it collects account info including name/email/DOB IP, device ID and physical location. While Canada post may seemingly offer isolation, Bill c-22 famously makes such segregation moot, as there is no formal legal process to obtaining your posts and content viewed. Just having an IP address from your Canadian ISP would be enough and total.

is a pretty misleading summary of Canadian speech law, it prohibits public statements likely to expose protected groups to hatred or contempt, and covers public incitement and wilful promotion of hatred.

but critically the speakers intent is actually irrelevant under this law. it could be someone trolling or just saying something casual without much harm intended. no clear border Canadians can know in advance, something you thought was harmless can be complained (recently they were encouraging reporting "harmful content" on X) and judged later based on its supposed effect. thats exactly where the chilling effect comes from.

1st aendment generally protects a user from government censorship, not from a private website deciding what it wants to host thats very different from American platforms having no protection.

I understand that you might view these laws and moderation policies are good but dismissing the concerns while mispresenting basic facts about the service and while promoting a social network seemingly started by a CTO from pornhub pushing for more censorship and broad application of Canadian hate speech, to say the least very disturbing and not a wise PR move.

After Nikita took over I found X to be significantly worse. They also realized paying people to repost viral videos wasn't drawing advertisers.

In fact one fo the reasons I think their algorithm is so bad now is because they lack advertisers (conversion on X remains the lowest out of all social media platforms) and have to rely on people paying for X premium who naturally wants to be seen and engage in echo chambers.

The real deal breaker for me is when X did not honor their freedom of speech philosophy and did not offer me protection when a certain European country got involved and became very aggressive that I had to leave.

The problem is a network effect. Lot of people rage quit X and then they return to it because they realize the reach isn't there on Bluesky, and whenever that happens it just sends strong signals

I don't really like X either, I feel like the feed algorithm isn't very good and just shows the same thing repeated by multiple accounts.

X is used internationally, especially big in Japan and has lot of adoption among working professionals. Just my two cents and I personally don't really like X much either. Threads also isn't that great either.

That already seems like a hard barrier for any sort of Canadian social network especially when you require your users to dox themselves and open themselves to all sorts of scrutiny.

The problem with all of this is that it creates a sterilized politically correct environment that won't have the same pull as a public square that upholds freedom of speech like American ones.

I don't doubt the existence of troll farms either its just that the idea that you can influence online discourse in the manner claimed by both Democrats and Republicans and beyond in a left vs right rivalry is greatly exaggerated and carry their biases.

At the end of the day, you really can't change whatever beliefs that the crowd has had for ages. You can't astroturf Palestinians into changing their view against Israelis and you can't astroturf Israelis into changing their position towards Palestinians.

There really isn't much of astro-turfing in non-EU parts of the world that would make little sense, your narrative might make more sense if there were any actual evidence or credibility behind the claims that non-EU states are engaged in anti-EU discourse that doesn't apply to them.

The complaints against EU is a lagging effect and what you see today is cumulative, one that all federated organization eventually face. LLMs have little to do with it and its just more visible as it is quite literally in global discourse

LLMs compile english to whatever code you want and it can write it better, faster and more efficiently than a human can over the long run. You might have an edge in shorter sprints but that gap is quickly reduced when LLMs simply learn and apply whatever optimization they find and it can continue to output without any diminishing returns and at fraction of what it takes to pay a human to do it.

You are saying that if you are not a code artisan (who by definition can't use LLM) likeyou then they should not use Zig. Honestly, I don't care. I'm not a code artisan, if Zig can help me ship faster and better with LLMs, my job is done and that's what I get paid for.

I'm really puzzled why people are so angry over using ai assistance with Zig. LLMs are always going to be able to write better code faster and better than anyone who calls themselves code artisans in this day and age.

I think this comment posted a while back someone who worked on Zig is pretty telling:
