<p>Hi HN,<p>I built JustOpenFile, a browser-based file viewer that processes files locally
without uploading them to a server.<p><pre><code> It supports PDF, DOCX, Excel, CSV, JSON, Markdown, EPUB, ZIP, SQLite, images,
audio, video, fonts, and 3D formats such as STL, GLB, and OBJ. ZIP archives
can also preview supported files inside them.

The project was motivated by a simple problem: opening an unfamiliar file
often requires installing an application or uploading potentially sensitive
  data to an online service.

There is no account, installation, or upload required.

  https://justopenfile.com

I’d appreciate feedback on file formats you would find useful and any
compatibility or performance issues you encounter.</code></pre></p>

<p>You're absolutely right about the AI-generated look. I'm not a UI designer, so I relied too heavily on AI for the frontend. I should probably study designs from other websites and create something more custom instead. Thanks for the feedback!</p>

<p>I think popularity to some extent represents what people are paying attention to and the technologies that are gaining traction. While it shouldn't be the only factor in evaluating software quality, it can serve as a valuable indicator of community interest and emerging trends in the tech landscape.</p>

<p>I've been working on git-stars.org and created a "Newcomer Ranking" that I think does a better job of discovering new popular projects than GitHub Trending.<p>While GitHub Trending often shows the same established repositories cycling through, my Newcomer Ranking specifically focuses on repositories that are both new AND gaining significant traction recently.</p>

<p>IdeaMiner analyzes successful websites and generates related business ideas using AI.<p><pre><code> Instead of generic brainstorming, it:
  1. Extracts key data from proven businesses (audience, model,
  positioning)
  2. Uses AI to generate adjacent opportunities
  3. Provides similarity control (copycat to completely different)
  4. Supports multiple languages and target markets

Database includes 7,000+ successful sites across 40+ categories.

Built this because most startup ideas fail due to lack of market
validation, not lack of creativity. Better to start with proven demand
  and find new angles.</code></pre></p>

<p>Tired of hunting for the perfect icon? I created a tool that generates
custom SVG icons on demand using AI.<p><pre><code> Just type what you need: "email icon", "settings gear", "user profile",
etc. The AI creates clean, professional vector graphics that you can
  download immediately.

  Why SVG?
  - Scales perfectly at any size
  - Tiny file sizes
  - Easy to customize colors/styles
  - Works everywhere (web, print, apps)

Built this because I was constantly buying icon packs or spending hours
searching for "that one perfect icon." Now I just generate exactly what I
   need in seconds.

The tool is free (5 daily generations) with optional credits for
private/commercial use. All public icons are searchable in the community
  gallery.

Try it out and let me know what you think!</code></pre></p>

<p>Hey HN! I built this after watching too many friends struggle with the "should I tell them?" dilemma.<p>The concept is simple: you enter your name, get an anonymous link to send to your crush. They see a message saying someone likes them and need to guess who. If they guess your name correctly, you both get notified of the match. If they guess wrong, they never know it was you.<p>Tech stack: Flask + SQLite, with Google OAuth for notifications. The tricky part was designing the UX to feel safe and non-creepy while maintaining complete anonymity until there's mutual interest.<p>Some interesting challenges I solved:
- Preventing spam/abuse while keeping it anonymous
- Designing the guess mechanism to avoid awkwardness
- Making sure failed guesses truly stay private<p>It's completely free and I'm not collecting any personal data beyond what's needed for the matching. Would love feedback from the community on the concept and execution!<p>Live at: <a href="https://secretcrush.im/" rel="nofollow">https://secretcrush.im/</a></p>
